A Story of Survival, Faith & Food

Keesha Marcelle Bennett didn't plan to build a catering company. She planned to survive.

In 2021, after a Stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis, Keesha returned to Pittsburgh with one thing still burning inside her: the belief that she was meant to feed people. Two years later, in 2023, she was declared in remission. And PeacefulPlatez was already growing.

Keesha is a professionally trained chef — a graduate of the Job Corps culinary program and a veteran of Commissary Catering, where she trained under Chef Stephen Pose. But her real education started much earlier, standing on a stool in her grandparents' kitchen, watching food bring family together without a recipe card in sight.

Alongside her husband Tyrell, Keesha built PeacefulPlatez into a full-service operation: drop-off catering for corporate teams and private events, a mobile food cart serving festivals and community gatherings, boxed lunch programs for offices and schools, and specialized meals for hospitals, seniors, and those with specific dietary needs.

In 2024, Keesha joined the Catapult Culinary Cohort and simultaneously launched a community feeding initiative for Pittsburgh's unhoused population — earning a $5,000 Yield Giving grant and a feature in the New Pittsburgh Courier.

PeacefulPlatez is a Black-owned, Halal catering company rooted in faith, community, and craft. Every plate carries the same intention: peace on the plate, and warmth in every bite.
